Receiving Tips
Your customer can receive the mobile tipping options in 2 ways. They can scan the QR code on your phone or tap the Tipping Card.
Please ensure your phone and tipping cards are placed in a prominent location.
A positive interaction with your customer is important when you present them with the QR code or the Tipping Card. Of course, this assumes you have provided excellent service. Remember to thank them for their business. And if they scan or tap, thank them for their tip
If you are working at a table service restaurant, you will have to input the amount of the bill for each meal and set up the tipping card again. This will also update your QR code.
You can then bring the Tipping Card to the table with the bill and explain what the Tipping Card is for. Alternatively, you can ask your customer to scan the QR code.
After your customer scans or taps, they will receive a notification on their phone. When they select the notification, they will see the tip amounts and processing charges.
The customer doesn’t have to tip immediately. Instead of tipping at the counter in a fast-food restaurant or a coffee shop for example, they can go to their table or leave and tip later. This is why we call it no-pressure tipping.
They will be asked if they would like to cover the processing charges. The default setting for this is yes.
Research has shown that 90% of customers cover the processing charge. If they don’t, the charge will be deducted from your tip.
The customer then pays with their digital wallet. They can also input their credit card details.
Reviewing Tips
To see what you’ve received in digital tips during a shift, you can view shift details under the shift option in the app. This will show you the net amount received after processing fees if the customer does not cover them. You can also see who else is on the shift and how many hours or what % they have been assigned.
In your reports, you can see tips for multiple employers (up to 3) and multiple timeframes. You can key a custom date range to see how much you’ve earned. This will show the gross tips you received as this is what needs to be reported to your employer if applicable.
Generating Reports
You are required by the IRS to report your tips to your employer each month. This has to be done before the 10th of the following month and has to be done manually. Your employer will receive an email with a pdf document containing the required information from donotreply@mytippingapp.com.
